The place: a Georgia town, deep in poverty. The characters: the Pacashau Sacred Divinity Choir. The occasion: Just as the choir leader dies of a heart attack, the annual gospel choir competition is approaching. Two strong women are in competition for the job of choir director. Vi Rose Hill (Queen Latifah) and G.G. Sparrow (Dolly Parton). Pastor Dale (Courtney B. Vance) gives Vi Rose the position, although G.G. is the widow of the former director and believes she should have inherited the honor.
The choir is not a large choir, but small (most of them pictured here above), with most of its members looking typecast. It’s a small church, but has plenty of empty seats during services. (Cutting corners on extras?) It is completely racially integrated, which I believe is not that common even in modern Georgia. The film has almost no specifically spiritual content; the purpose of the choir is not to praise God but to win contests.
The music in this film is partly secular but inspiring.

This movie was a cross between “Footloose” and “Sister Act,” music was nice but the storyline a bit dry. yeah I saw it!

George Lucas said he’s been sitting on Red Tails for almost 20 years and he funded it himself. He said the powers that be didn’t sign off on it because there were no yt people in major roles (read: starring). Dude says it’s a trilogy but he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to make the other two if folks don’t go see this one. :copsfivetickets:

Me no likey Queen Latifah. I used to like her back in the day when she was rappin “Ladies First” and “Latifiah’s Had it Up To Hear”. But since she did that gawd awful movie with Steve Martin, started putting out Jazz Music and being a Cover Girl, I haven’t been able to stomach the Queen. There is just something that annoys me about her, and Sandra Bullock, and Cuba Gooding Jr.

Yeah everything just turned out perfect in the end. Latifiah’s husband came back to her and the choir HO who slept with Mr. Chu got married to another goofy looking chinese dude. so yeah the happy ending was unrealistic @ Tra and everything just seemed to work out for everybody.
There are no such things as happy endings, only in the movies!!!
